Building Resilience of Children & their Communities by Integrating DRR, Social Protection and Technology (Save the Children India; 2017 & 2018)
Save the Children India (SCI) in partnership with NOKIA aims to build resilience of vulnerable children, their families and communities in 4 states (Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu) across India, through an innovative approach by integrating Information Technology, DRR and Social Protection framework. Under this initiative, task forces have been formed and are being capacitated to respond to disasters. Four crucial thematic areas, namely: First Aid, Early Warning, Search and Rescue and Relief Camp Management have been selected by the SCI team for building capacities of the Task forces. Supplementing these efforts further, the project has a vital component at School level, in the form of Mock drills for building capacities of communities, children and school staff to deal with an emergency situation. RedR India was selected as the capacity building partner for the project. RedR undertook the whole process of design and delivery of the capacity building initiative in selected communities within the project geography. Approximately 1500 community members, including women and children were trained during the process through a series of 69 training courses and mock-drills across the 4 states.
Frontline Capacity Building for Earthquake Relief and Recovery in Nepal (RedR UK; 2016)
Immediately aftermath of Nepal earthquake 2015, RedR India in partnership with RedR UK initiated Capacity Building Hub in Nepal. This capacity building hub in Nepal, on one hand, was actively engaged in providing humanitarian capacity building support to UN and INGOs since the beginning of earthquake response. On the other hand, RedR India also participated in networking forums including HRRP and AIN. This project on District Capacity Building for Recovery and Resilience has been an outcome of the partnership process in between RedR India, RedR UK, Good Neighbour Nepal (GNN) and Unification Nepal. All together 14 training courses, were conducted in Sindhupalchowk and Gorakha districts. 292 participants representing local NGOs, INGOs and UN were trained through these training courses. The partnership process with GNN and Unification Nepal played a significant role in the identification of the training courses, disseminating course announcements, mobilising partnership and managing logistics of the training courses. Each partner also designed and conducted one partner led the course in this series of 14 training courses.
Capacity Building on Fire, Landslide & Crowd Control for Vaishnodevi Shrine Board (MVSBT, Jammu and Kashmir; 2010)
In Vaishnodevi, Jammu and Kashmir, RedR India trained the staff on preparedness and response mechanism with respect to fire, crowd control and landslides. RedR India prepared IEC material, developed training manuals, facilitated mock drills involving all stakeholders and formed disaster management groups at the community level.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Trainings (Focus Humanitarian Assistance, India; 2007)
FOCUS India, recognizing the crucial role of the immediate community in disaster preparedness and mitigation, had undertaken a Capacity Building initiative for training its Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT). The main objective of CERT training was to train volunteers as first responders to help themselves, their family and the community during a disaster. RedR India was responsible for the design and delivery of these courses which were conducted in 15 villages of Andhra Pradesh, India.
